Housekeeper in Court over theft of jewelery Worth N1.7million
A housekeeper and one other, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged conspiracy and stealing of jewellery. The accused, Grace Eno (25) and Abdullahi Adamu (32), who reside in Surulere, Lagos are both facing a three count-charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods. They both pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor, ASP Samson Ekikere, however, said the offences were committed on June 7 at 2:00 p.m. at No. 20, Albert Iyora St., Lekki Phase 1, Victoria Island. According to him, Eno had been employed by Mrs Philomena Ohuoba for a week. He said Eno, on the seventh day of her employment, broke into her employer’s room and other privacy and stole her jewellery and luxury accessories. “Eno stole gold Jewellery, electronic devices, including phones and ipads, all valued at N1.9million,” Ekikere said. The prosecutor added that Eno took the stolen items to Adamu, who received the items, being fully aware that they were stolen. Ekikere said Eno was apprehended following a detailed investigation by the police, with the assistance of Eno’s guarantor. The offences were said to contravene Sections 285, 326 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused persons bail in the sum N500, 000 with two sureties each, in like sum and adjourned the case till Oct. 30, for trial.
