Nigeria Vs Algeria: Super Eagles looking to extend unbeaten run in World Cup qualifiers
The Super Eagles are on an unbeaten run in the World Cup qualifiers that stretches all the way back 2005.
With the Super Eagles already through to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, their Friday, November 11 game against Algeria, the last in the qualifying series might not be deemed important.
Nigeria, however, have more than pride to play for against Algeria on Saturday.
The Super Eagles are on an unbeaten run in the World Cup qualifiers that stretches all the way back 2005.
Nigeria’s last defeat in a FIFA World Cup qualifier was a 1-0 away loss to Angola, a defeat that was eventually detrimental to them as they missed out on the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Since then, Nigeria have gone 36 games without any defeat in the World Cup qualifier, the best in Africa and second only to Spain in world football.
Since 2005, the Super Eagles have had 25 wins and 11 draws making it to two consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments.
This record is however at stake as the Super Eagles of Nigeria prepare to take on Algeria in Constantine.
Algeria are headed into the game like wounded lions following a dismal qualifying campaign so far where they are bottom of Group B with just a point- this is after one draw and four losses.
Algeria national team coach Rabah Madjer has been very bullish ahead of the game.
“The game against Nigeria is not a friendly match for me…to me it is the first game of the qualifiers for the 2018 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon,” Madjer said.
Madjer who is regarded as Algeria’s greatest player has been brought in to steady a sinking ship and he will be eyeing a good start to his reign against Nigeria.
