Emmanuel Amuneke: Nigerian coach takes over at Sudanese club Al-Khartoum Watani

Emmanuel Amuneke

This will be Amuneke’s fifth coaching job since he completed his coaching courses in Europe in 2018.

Former Flying Eagles coach Emmanuel Amuneke has taken over at Sudanese club Al-Khartoum Watani.

Amuneke has been out of a job since he left his former post as the coach of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria.

The former Nigeria international takes over at Al-Khartoum and replaces Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah, who resigned following his appointment as the new manager of the Black Stars of Ghana.

The 46-year-old will get on his new job immediately as his game at the club will be an away trip to Hay Al Wadi on Saturday, November 11.

Al-Khartoum Watani are currently sixth in the Sudan Premier League with 46 points.

Domestically, Amuneke's challenge will be to break the dominance of Al Merreikh and Al Hilal, who between them have won every league title since 1970 except in 1992.

The target is a herculean one but we will try as much as we can to break the dominance of Al Merreikh and Al Hilal, who between them have won every league title since 1970 except in 1992,” the former Barcelona winger told Complete Sports.

This will be Amuneke’s fifth coaching job since he completed his coaching courses in Europe in 2018 and excluding his post as the assistant head coach at Saudi Arabian side Al-Hazm F.C.

He managed Julius Berger and Ocean Boys before he was appointed coach of Nigeria’s U-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets.

It was with his Golden Eaglets he won his first and only trophy of his coaching career so far leading Nigeria to win the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup title in Chile.

He was later promoted to the U-21 but failed to qualify for the 2017 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Zambia.
