The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be using reimagined Telstar Football by Adidas at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have since sealed qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup with one game still to play in the qualifying series.
Ahead of the World Cup, Adidas have just released the Telstar18 football which is the official ball of the tournament.
The Telstar was first introduced at the European Championship in 1968 and was the first ball to be decorated with black panels which marked the turning point football designs.
Adidas have now chosen to reimagine the ball for next year’s tournament to celebrate its 50th birthday.
The new Telstar18 has been manufactured with the old 1970 FIFA World design but featuring the latest technology and an innovative NFC chip to enable digital interaction.
The NFC chip is for interaction with the ball using a smartphone. Each ball generates a unique identifier, unlocking exclusive content and information for the user.
The Telstar18 is combined with the best features of the Brazuca, the ball which was used at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil including the new improvements.
A metallic print execution and a texture graphic effect are among the new panel design.
After the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the Telstar was used for the 1974 World Cup in West Germany.
Adidas biggest athlete Lionel Messi had a feel of the ball at an event in Russia on Thursday, November 9.
“I like the design, I like the colours, and I would like to try it out on the pitch," Messi said.
The Argentina national team captain will try out the ball again when they face World Cup host Russia in a friendly game on Saturday, November 11.
It will also be used for the Super Eagles and Argentina friendly on Tuesday, November 14.
The ball will be available for all 2018 World Cup participants including the Super Eagles, for training and friendly games before Russia 2018.
